Turning a blind eye to Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation's ban on hoardings and flex banners, several fans and followers of IT minister K.T. Rama Rao are putting up hoardings ahead of his birthday.

A twitter user, Mohammad Sameer Ahmad, shared a picture of a hoarding put up on a bus stop wishing Mr Rao on his birthday. He wrote, “Sir you should be inspiration to us, if your well-wishers want to celebrate your birthday why don't you guide them to use money in good things not in this (sic)”.

Responding to the request, Mr Rao said, “Absolutely agree with you. Request my friends who are spending money on hoardings & paper advertisements to donate the same to Chief Minister's Relief Fund (sic)”. Further, he directed the GHMC commissioner and mayor Bonthu Rammohan to take down any or all such hoardings as soon as possible.

Despite repeated requests from the minister, posters are coming up across the city. Last week when a user wanted to cut a cake on his birthday, Mr Rao said, “Just plant a tree if you can. No cakes or posters my Birthday (sic)”.
