Jubileenagar in Karimnagar district is a tiny village that has the unique distinction of a single family ruling the village for more than 30 years.

Impressed by the services rendered by the family, villagers have elected a person from the same family as a sarpanch unanimously this time too.In the entire Karimangar rural mandal, Jubileenagar is the only village which elected its sarpanch unanimously. The village is located 10 km away from Karimnagar town. Of the eight wards it has, sixth ward members were also elected unanimously.

Reserved for general women, Rudra Bharathi was unanimously elected as sarpanch by the villagers. Bharathi’s father-in-law Rudra Vishwanatham was the first sarpanch of the village which was made a separate panchayat in 1980. He continued in the post up to 1995.Then Rudra Subadra, his wife, served a term as the sarpanch from 1995 to 2001. Then their son, Ramu was elected sarpanch in 2001 who served two terms up to 2011.

Only one term was held by another villager Modempalli Swamy when the post was reserved for SC category in 2013 elections. Ramu, the husband of Bharathi, was elected deputy sarpanch.Instead of approaching the sarpanch, people used to approach Ramu for their works since he maintains a close rapport with all villagers irrespective of caste and creed. Moreover, he gives equal respect to everybody right from a small kid to elderly persons.

Keeping all this in mind, villagers unanimously elected Ramu’s wife Bharathi as the sarpanch by convincing two other contestants — Jatanki Radhika and Modumpalli Vijayalaxmi — to withdraw in the interest of village.Having a population of 1,264, Jubileenagar has 980 voters. Though people of all communities, including Padmashali, Gouda, Rajaka, SC and others, are staying in the village, Padmashali is the dominant caste. Bharathi also hails from the Padmashali community.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Bharathi said she had been elected unanimously as her family had been serving a lot to the village for the last 30 years. Besides providing drinking water facility to every house, CC roads and drainages were also laid. A primary school in the village was also upgraded to high school, she said.Thanking villagers for electing her sarpanch, she assured people that she would make Jubileenagar a model village in the State.
