A Ph.D. student from OU, Plea against demolishing Errum Manzil

Hyderabad: A PIL has been filed before the Telangana High Court, challenging the decision of the state government to construct a new buildings for the Assembly and the Legislative Council in the place where the Errum Manzil stands now. Mr J. Shankar, a Ph.D student from Osmania University, filed the PIL on Monday, seeking to direct the state to protect the heritage building. He described the history of the building in the petition and brought to the notice of the court that it could be demolished without the permission of the Heritage Conservation Committee. Further, he said that the state government must consult the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage, Archaeological Survey of India, even if any alterations are to be carried on the building. The state was instead going to demolish the building without approval of any such bodies, he said.
